What is SAIP

Many universities and colleges around the world offer a variety of study abroad programs that allow their students to expand their horizons and obtain international experience. However, these programs can be prohibitively expensive and can become a daunting process that may deter potential applicants.

To this end, in 2004 ACIC has designed a new kind of study-abroad program the Study Abroad Internship Program (SAIP), which has received extremely positive reviews from participants from all over the world. This innovative program provides native English speaking college students or recent graduates in educational related fields (other majors could be considered), the opportunity to spend one or two semesters as an intern at an elementary school or kindergarten teacher in China. We at ACIC recognize the difficulties involved with venturing to another country and so to ease the transition ACIC will underwrite all expenses associated with the program (See: ‘Benefits’ for details).

SA(I)P is a unique study abroad program that encourages greater participation among foreign university students, specifically those who aspire to make teaching their future international career. We do this by making the program affordable with full sponsorship from schools in China.

This program is right for you if you are:
  • A native English speaker ;
  • 18 years old or over ;
  • In good health ;
  • Interested in teaching and love kids ;
  • Either pursuing or have already received a degree in education or you are a diploma graduate ;
  • Willing to commit to stay in China for at least one semester (6 months) .

Program Options
Half Day. Targeted towards undergraduates. Participants in this program will only work 20hrs/wk, allowing for additional time to explore their surroundings. Graduates may apply, but priority will be granted to undergrads.
Full Day. Targeted towards graduates or final-year. Participants in this program will work full working days of 40hrs/wk, and stand a chance to reap a ‘good-performance’ incentive at the end of internship.

Intern Responsibilities
While fulfilling teaching responsibilities, participants in the program will need to plan weekly schedules, daily lesson agendas, teaching aids, as well as portfolios and assessments reports. Additionally, interns may be tasked with coordinating and assisting in school events allowing a unique opportunity to work closely with Chinese co-teachers and principals and a chance to bring their foreign expertise to the fore.
