General Terms & Conditions
These Terms & Conditions form the basis of ACIC’s SAIP:
1. Agreement
1.1 The purpose of this agreement is to articulate the arrangement internship by which THE CHINESE INSTITUTE shall provide off-campus learning experience for THE STUDENT as an intern, through ACIC.
1.2 This agreement will be ongoing for the entire term of the internship.
1.3 THE STUDENT will be under direct supervision of both THE CHINESE INSTITUTE and ACIC, and must abide by all rules and regulations as stipulated by ACIC and THE CHINESE INSTITUTE. THE STUDENT will not receive any monetary compensation from neither ACIC nor THE CHINESE INSTITUTE.
2. Provisions
2.1 A fully-supervised internship with THE CHINESE INSTITUTE as stated in this agreement.
2.2 Reimbursement of 1 x Economy Class return airfare from THE STUDENT’S home in home country to China upon successful completion of the agreed internship period.
2.3 Comprehensive travel insurance – inclusive of coverage for emergency overseas medical expenses.
2.4 100 hours of lectures in basic Mandarin, organized by ACIC.
2.5 A comprehensive orientation organized by ACIC prior to your departure from home country and continued upon your arrival in China, which consists of the following:
Provision of and a run-through of the ACIC SAIP Handbook
A briefing on laws, rules & regulations to be observed in China
A briefing on the expectations of the internship program
2.6 A fully-furnished, single-occupancy room in a home-stay residence, inclusive of 3 meals a day.
2.7 Comprehensive student support provided by fully-trained bilingual ACIC staff.
2.8 One day of sick / personal leave per month during the term of the internship. Additional personal leave(s) of absence shall be applied for by the student and prior approved by THE CHINESE INSTITUTE (*see also article 3.6).
2.9 Official Public Holidays as published by the Chinese Government.
2.10 Pick-up and send-off airport services in China.

3. Student Obligations
THE STUDENT shall:
3.1 Comply with all rules, regulations and procedures as stipulated by ACIC, THE CHINESE INSTITUTE, and the Chinese Government.
3.2 Attend ACIC’s classes & assessments on time.
3.3 Perform part time or full time teaching between 15~25 hours per week.
3.4 Attend public & national events organized by THE CHINESE INSTITUTE, even if they fall on weekends. These events may include China’s National Day celebrations, Parents’ Day celebrations, Sports Day etc. The number of such events will not exceed 3 days per semester.
3.5 Accept no paid employment during the period of internship.
3.6 Personal leave(s) of absence must be applied for by THE STUDENT and be approved by THE CHINESE INSTITUTE in advance. Sick leave must be supported by a medical certificate from an authorized medical practitioner within 3 days of return to normal duties.
4. Breach of agreement & associated penalty / disagreements & conflicts.
4.1 Requests for “pre-mature termination of contract” must be applied for and approved by ACIC in advance. Such requests will only be considered on grounds of medical or family emergency.
4.2 All attempts will be made to settle disputes amicably by all parties concerned.
4.3 Failing the above, disputes will be arbitrated as per the laws of The People’s Republic of China.
